Hey, been there, seen him and almost got arrested for standing in the middle of a busy road to photograph him! Yep, only in Winchester can an Aussie get a cop's attention by pulling out their camera and walking up the middle of the main road to snap off a few photos in 1997! :D
I was there and have a few photos and about 3 cds I bought at the MVC store not far from this statue. Did you go to the library of bibles where they have two large rooms where they store two different styles of bibles? There's one room full of bibles in Latin; the other across the hall is in English that have been translated from the Latin! Very interesting. Also, they have The Round Table there from King Arthur's day in a church nearby. How it came to be there - instead of where it was supposed to be up on the Scottish border - is beyond anyone's guess. But it's up on the wall of one of the churches there. Go. Look. See. I want to go back and see the darned thing as I didn't see it last time. So good to see this statue is still standing of the King who saved the English Language as we know it; otherwise we'd all be speaking Spanish! :D
