Music: Grade 5 theory is required for all instrument grades above... grade 5. At least, it was when I did grade 8 singing.

A friend of mine is doing 101 in 1001 as well, but I doubt he's thought it through in quite the same way as you have and are. Perhaps you could get in touch.

*nods* - I think I'll get hold of a Grade V practice book or something and see how hard it is. Then I can either use that as something to work towards, or as a starting point. I can read music fine, but I don't really understand how chords and stuff work, and I'd like to.

Various responses, I'll try to order these in the same order the goals appear! Just some thoughts:

Coming out to my family was very anticlimactic (I can tell the story another time, if you like!) but I'm glad I did it. If putting it on the list makes it more likely to happen, go for it! Same for work, although that's a harder concept for me - do you just drop it into conversation? Wear a badge? (Joking!)

A family lexicon sounds really interesting! What would it consist of?

Doing a first aid course was really educational and has actually come in useful a couple of times now. I highly recommend it.

A book of family stories sounds lovely, I wish my family would tell their stories more often.

Specific folk events that you might consider:
IVFDF, Inter Varsity Folk Dance Festival. There's a strong Exeter presence there each year, and the people are very relaxed and friendly, a mixture of students and non-students and their families.

Sidmouth Folk Festival - Catmint has experience of this one, but I remember various people praising it.

Grade 5, as Freddie said, is a useful grade, as it allows you to take other high level exams and is roughly the equivalent of a GCSE in music if you combine it with a Grade 5 in singing/an instrument.

The Antony Nolan Trust (bone marrow people) actually sent me a flyer about signing other people up the other week. They can now do it by sending you a saliva test kit by post, you don't have to go get a blood test. Nice underwear can be expensive, but it's really worth it to have clothes that fit properly. I can't really afford it right now, but BHS/ M&S are good middle-of-the-range shops. However, sometimes their bras are really ugly. (Pink lace on a clashingly-coloured bra, urgh).

I really like the quilt idea - must they be surprise babies? What if they are planned? Or is it just that you're not expecting anyone to have children anytime soon? (Tongue firmly in cheek for these questions!)

Having a driving licence, even without a car, is a very liberating feeling. And after you're twenty-five you can hire cars much more easily!

With the family, the longer I leave it, the sillier I feel. I am hoping that they will or already have worked it out by themselves... Work: you say that, but actually my manager has a rainbow coloured lanyard with 'Out in [company]' for her security pass. I have my rainbow icthus badge (see icon) on the collar of my coat, but I'm not sure how obvious it is.

Family lexicon: my family has a lot of nonsense words, or, rather, words that only make sense within the family. Some of them tie in with family stories (like my great-grandmother, who used the verb 'to trollop', meaning, roughly, 'to walk where one is not supposed to walk').

I might be able to do a first aid course through work. I am one of the Health and Safety reps, but there is already a first aider in the office. I don't know how many they need.

I kept failing to join the bone marrow register last time round, because I was always trying to do it at the same time as giving blood, and as luck would have it my iron levels were too low, so it got lost in the confusion. I didn't know they'd moved on to saliva. Thank you for the link - that looks like a nice easy one!

I'm quite fussy about underwear - has to be natural fibre, I'm not keen on underwired bras, etc, etc, so shopping is a real faff and I put it off as long as I can. Having it as a goal might force me to do a complete overhaul!

They don't have to be surprise babies - it's just that they're likely to be! I don't know that any of my close friends have babies timetabled, but there are at least three couples who might Make An Announcement in the next few years.

At the moment Tony and I are both quite happy without a car. But you never know.

What is a Paris bus songbook?

Collecting family stories is a great idea! I also liked the making a quilt idea (though I admit I lol'd at the surprise babies bit), it's good to be prepared!

Ah - this is a long story! My father has had vintage Paris buses since the 1970s (the buses themselves date back to the 30s) and over the years various people have helped him out with them in one way or another. When these people get together, alcohol gets drunk, and songs get sung. Some of these songs have developed some extra words over the years, and I want to get these down! Same principle with the stories, really.

I had a go at making a double quilt as part of my last list - it's not finished yet, but I reckon I'll have it finished by the time I start this one. Baby quilts are a lot smaller!

You have wild-release a particular book that has sentimental meaning to me, in the particular copy to which I am attached on Part 1 of this list. Perhaps combine that with wild release 101 books? So that it becomes a two-part goal: Wild-release 101 books, one of which must be a copy with sentimental value. Maybe even make it the 101th book you release, as the conclusion.
