11th December 2010

Today I joined colleagues, members, and representatives from other trade unions on the Save Our Services march around Woking. We gathered outside the station, then moved to the borough council offices to hear some speeches. The march went around the town centre - we waved flags and placards and chanted slogans - and finished at the other end of town, with a couple more speeches - and then we were given soup and rolls at the local Labour party base.

There was a really friendly feeling about it all, notwithstanding the anger directed towards the Con-Dem cuts policies, and there seemed to be a fair bit of support for us among the spectators.

This completed goal 51 - 'Go on a demo'. I wasn't expecting it to be this easy, but who cares? I really enjoyed it, and it will probably be the first of many.

I took lots of photos and will put them all up on Flickr when I've got some batteries charged.

Why do I want to do this?

I believe that putting my physical self into a political statement can sometimes be very effective. It's an uncompromising form of protest.

How will I know I've done it?

I'll have participated actively in a demonstration, rally or other form of protest.

I'll record this in this journal.
