Baubles

What's this about? Why do I want to do it?

Years ago, when my parents split up, I hit upon the idea of buying a pair of identical Christmas tree ornaments and giving them one each, because they were both still my parents, even if there were now two houses and two Christmas trees. It became a bit of a tradition. Now I've moved out myself, so there are three trees. I bought a set of six filigree angels last year - two apiece - but would like to make a set myself.

How will I know I've done it?

On three separate Christmas trees there will be three identical or very similar ornaments, which I have constructed or substantially decorated myself.

I'll record this in posts in this journal.

Bathplug

Why do I want to do this?

It seems unlikely that I'll ever wean my husband off his overflowing baths. This is the next best thing: reuse the water. I think I ought to be able to pass a hose through the bathroom window and save at least some of the bathwater: a blessing, in droughts.

How will I know I've done this?

I'll have worked out a way to get bathwater out of the bath and into buckets/watering cans and, ultimately, onto the plants. I'll have rescued at least ten litres at least ten times.

I'll record this in posts in this journal.

What's this about?

[livejournal.com profile] adayinmylife is a photography challenge in which 'people capture a whole day of their life in pictures'.

Here are the rules:

What is a Day in my Life?
Easy...70 images (INCLUDING THE TEASER) or less that tell your story from the time you wake up (or within 15 minutes because we like bed head) and about one picture per hour or so until you go to bed (or within a short time before). Not 2-3 hours. Time checks are not required, but it helps to have them so people get a sense of the time of day.

A day starts when you get up in the morning and ends when you go to bed at night. It does not start halfway through one night and to the next one. Wake-sleep. That's it. The only way around this is if you wake at dusk and sleep at dawn or live a similar lifestyle.

Why do I want to do this?

I think this will make an interesting companion to goal 8 (project 365) - a kind of detailed view of one of those 365 days, if you like.

How will I know I've done this?

I'll be able to point to a journal entry which contains one whole day's worth of pictures, including at least one from every hour that day that I was awake. This can be on the official community, on this journal, or on [personal profile] el_staplador, or any combination of these.

I'll post a link to the post on this post, even if I don't host it in this journal. - and here it is

What's this about?

[livejournal.com profile] 100_snapshots is a photography challenge in which the participant is given 100 prompt words and takes a photograph for each of them. There is no time limit.

Why do I want to do this?

I'm trying to improve my photography, and this is another angle from which to approach it. I've already got goals on this list that will improve my more spontaneous pictures, but this one involves deliberately setting out to take photos of specific subjects.

How will I know I've done this?

Each of the words below will be a link to the photograph that illustrates it.

I'll record this using the list below, on Flickr, and possibly on the official LJ community.

Quilt Top Completed

What's this about? Why do I want to do it?

My sister-in-law is pregnant, so I want to make a cot quilt for that baby. Plus, quite a lot of my friends are attached and might have children in the next few years. It's good to be prepared.

How will I know I've done it?

I'll have completed two cot coverlets.

I'll record this in posts in this journal.

Left lens

Why do I want to do this?

I'm very short-sighted in my left eye, while the vision in my right eye is good enough for me to go without glasses and not notice the difference. So a monocle would actually be appropriate for my vision loss (my last optician used to joke about it every time I went to see him)! Plus, wouldn't it be awesome?

How will I know I've done it?

I'll be in a possession of a single-eye vision corrective - that's not a contact lens - compliant with my prescription. I'll have worn it out in public at least once.

I'll record this in this journal, with photos.

Chair (Restoration in Progress)

What's this about? Why do I want to do it?

My mother bought me this chair from the junk stall at Woking market for a couple of quid. I was going to leave it painted white, but she started stripping the paint. Having carried on with that, I can see her point - it's lovely wood underneath. (Beech, I think, but I'm not sure.) Anyhow, now it's started it needs finishing, because it looks a bit silly as it is.

How will I know I've done this?

The chair will be stripped down to bare wood, and finished with beeswax or similar. (There seem to be two layers of white paint, one of horrible blue, probably lead, paint, and one of some sort of varnish.)

I'll record this in posts in this journal.

... to say that not only is my list ready to go, there's a complete version of it here, with links to elaborations upon each goal. I've been posting these with the date out of order, and haven't cross-posted to LJ, because I didn't want to spam you all. Feel free to wander at your leisure.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find out why I only have 100 goals tagged 'not yet started'.
